Cody Lewis Vaughn, 31, killed in El Paso rear-end crash

EL PASO, TX – A 31-year-old man sustained fatal injuries Sunday in a three-vehicle crash on the northeast side of El Paso, reports KFOX 14.

The incident occurred in the morning at the intersection of Gateway North Boulevard and Sean Haggerty Drive near the Cooperstown neighborhood. This is just northwest of Dr. Joseph Torres Elementary School.

Police say that the 37-year-old driver of a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado rear-ended a 2018 Hyundai Elantra that was stopped at a red light. This initial collision caused the Hyundai to travel into the intersection, at which point it was struck by a 2017 Toyota RAV4.

The driver of the Hyundai, identified as Cody Lewis Vaughn of El Paso, died at the scene of the wreck.

It’s unclear if either of the other drivers sustained injuries.

Authorities say the driver of the Chevy, identified as 37-year-old Juan Manuel Padilla Rivas, was likely speeding when the crash happened.

The investigation is ongoing.
