Wrong-way crash on FM 852 claims Aguillon Gonzales, son

UPSHUR CO., TX – A 53-year-old man and his son sustained fatal injuries over the July Fourth weekend in a wrong-way collision in central Upshur County.

According to CBS 19, the accident occurred Sunday afternoon, just east of Lake Gilmer on FM 852. This is a few miles northwest of Gilmer and about 115 miles east of Dallas.

The investigation indicates that a westbound Cadillac Escalade entered the eastbound side of FM 852 and collided head-on with an eastbound pickup truck.

The driver of the pickup truck and his 11-year-old son, who was a passenger in the vehicle, succumbed to their injuries at the scene.

It’s unclear if the 16-year-old driver of the Cadillac sustained injuries, and there’s no word yet regarding the condition of the teen driver at the time of the crash.

Motorists likely experienced delays along FM 852 near Gilmer on Sunday while emergency crews worked at the scene.

A full investigation is underway.
