SUV, semi collide on US-87 in Newton Co., killing Ann Burns
NEWTON CO., TX – An elderly woman sustained fatal injuries Monday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash involving a semi in south-central Newton County.
According to 12 News abc, the accident occurred shortly after 3 p.m. on the northbound side of US-87 between FM 3086 and FM 4102. This is south of Trout Creek, which is about 53 miles northeast of Beaumont.
Police say that a northbound 2015 Freightliner Cascadia 18-wheeler struck a northbound 2023 Buick Enclave carrying two people when the driver of the latter vehicle made a U-turn along the highway.
Medics transported a 90-year-old passenger from the SUV to an area hospital with non-critical injuries.
The driver of the SUV, identified as 85-year-old Ann Burns, died at the scene of the collision.
The truck driver did not sustain injuries in the crash.
A full investigation is underway.
