Pickup strikes, kills David Whisenhunt on TX-31 in Kilgore

KILGORE, TX – A 64-year-old pedestrian sustained fatal injuries this past Friday in an auto-pedestrian crash along the highway in southwest Gregg County, reports KETK.

The incident occurred shortly before 7:15 p.m. on TX-31 near Fritz Swanson Road. This is just northwest of the high school in Kilgore, which is approximately 25 miles northeast of Tyler and 121 miles southeast of Dallas.

Police say that an eastbound 2017 Ram pickup truck struck David Ray Whisenhunt when the pedestrian attempted to cross the highway on foot. Wisenhunt was not using a designated crosswalk at the time of the crash.

Authorities declared Whisenhunt deceased at the scene of the accident.

No other injuries have been referenced in connection to crash, and there’s no indication of foul play.

A full investigation is underway.
