Semi vs. bike crash in NE Midland kills Tamara Jan Cates

MIDLAND, TX – A 63-year-old cyclist sustained fatal injuries Friday in crash involving an 18-wheeler in northeast Midland, reports First Alert 7.

Shortly after 7:30 p.m., emergency crews responded to a serious accident on I-20 Business near North County Road 1103. This is just south of the Midland East RV Park.

Police say that for unknown reasons, an eastbound 18-wheeler struck the rear of an electric bike.

The bicycle operator, identified as Tamara Jan Cates, died at the scene of the crash.

The truck driver stopped to render aid and to speak with authorities.

A full investigation is underway.
