Wrong-way crash on US-287 near Alvord kills 2, injures 5

WISE CO., TX – Two people died, and several others were hurt Saturday in a wrong-way collision along the highway in north-central Wise County, reports Texoma’s homepage and DFW Scanner.

The incident occurred just after 9 p.m. near the US-287 split with Business 81. This is just southeast of the city of Alvord and almost fifty miles northwest of Fort Worth.

Police say that for unknown reasons a northbound vehicle crossed the median of US-287 and entered the southbound lanes of the highway, ultimately colliding head-on with a southbound vehicle.

Authorities have not yet released the identities of the two people who died.

Medics air-lifted the other five people involved in the accident to area hospitals with critical injuries. A child may have been among the victims.
