Wrong-way crash on TX-207 near Claude kills James Smith, 40

ARMSTRONG CO., TX – A 40-year-old Amarillo man died, and two others were hurt Sunday in a wrong-way crash along the highway in north-central Armstrong County.

According to KGNC News Now, emergency teams responded Sunday night to a two-vehicle wreck on Highway 207 just north of Claude. This is about 30 miles southeast of Amarillo.

Police say that for unknown reasons, the driver of a southbound 2002 Acura RDX entered the northbound side of the highway and collided head-on with a northbound 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe carrying two adults and an infant.

The wrong-way driver, identified as James Smith, died at the scene of the accident.

Medics transported all three occupants of the Hyundai to an area hospital with unknown injuries.

A full investigation is underway.
