Car strikes, kills Manuel Hidalgo Fierro, 79, on scooter

EL PASO, TX – An elderly man died Sunday afternoon when a vehicle struck him in a busy intersection in far-east El Paso, reports KFOX 14.

Emergency teams responded to Montwood Drive and Lake Omega Street around 2:17 p.m. This is just north of Montwood Square shopping mall.

Police say that 79-year-old Manuel Hidalgo Fierro was crossing Montwood on an electric scooter when an eastbound 2006 Honda Element hit him.

Fierro died shortly after transport to an area hospital.

Authorities say the Honda had a green light when the wreck occurred and that Fierro was crossing outside of a designated crosswalk.

No other injuries have been reported in connection to the accident.

A full investigation is underway.
