Zachary Morris, 19, claimed in ejection crash in Hardin County
HARDIN CO., TX – A single-vehicle collision in west-central Hardin County claimed a Warren man on Wednesday morning, reports 6 KFDM.
The fatal crash occurred shortly before 3:39 a.m. just northwest of Silsbee and near the intersection of FM 1122 and FM 418. This is about 20 miles north of Beaumont.
Police say that the 19-year-old driver of a westbound pickup truck lost control of his vehicle while navigating a curve in the roadway. The vehicle left FM 1122, crashing into a tree, a utility pole, and some transformers along the roadway. The pickup then caught fire.
The impact of the collision threw the unrestrained driver from his vehicle and into the roadway, killing him at the scene.
Authorities identified the victim as Zachary Morris.
There were no other passengers in the pickup truck at the time of the accident.
Damage to transformers resulted in power outages for more than a thousand Entergy customers in the area.
A full investigation is underway.
